Why G-10 Looks Dirty (And Why That’s a Good Sign)
G-10 is a tough, layered laminate. Your grip texture is precision-machined to provide traction—so it naturally grabs skin oils, dust, lint, carbon, and whatever the range floor is made of this week.
Translation: If your grips look used… they’re doing their job.
What Not To Do
- Don’t soak in harsh chemicals. Mild soap + toothbrush + water is the move.
- Don’t sand the surface unless you want to permanently alter the texture.
- Don’t overtighten screws. Snug is good. Gorilla is bad.
Re-Install Checklist (So Everything Stays Tight)
- Clean and dry first: Make sure grips and hardware are dry before mounting.
- Snug, not savage: Tighten evenly until seated. Avoid over-torquing.
- Optional but recommended: Use o-rigs under the screw heads (purchase here)
- Double-check: After your next range trip, verify screws are still snug.
Normal Wear vs. Problems
Normal (Totally Fine)
- Slight smoothing on high-contact points over time
- Grips looking “chalky” or dusty after heavy use (cleaning fixes it)
- exture feeling aggressive at first (your hands will get used to it) but a light sanding with a 320 grit sanding sponge will eliminate the use of Vagisil. Remember, sand lightly. You can take off, but can’t put back on.
Reach Out to Us If You See
- Cracks or damage from impact (highly unlikely)
- Hardware that won’t seat properly after installation
- Anything that looks clearly “off” out of the box
FAQ
Can I use gun cleaner on my G-10 grips?
We recommend mild soap + toothbrush + water. If you’re unsure about a chemical, don’t use it on your grips.
Why do my grips look brighter after cleaning?
That’s normal—cleaning removes oils and embedded grime from the texture.
Can I “tone down” the texture?
Sanding G-10 grips is permanent and not recommended. If you choose to do it, use a mild (320) sanding sponge, wear a respirator -or- wet sand it (G-10 dust is hazardous), work slowly, and understand that any modification voids the warranty.
Next Steps: Complete the Setup
